Blog rec:

Disney Princess Recovery, a fascinating (and well-written!) blog by a progressive educated mother trying to extricate her little girl from the clutches of the Princess-Industrial Complex. I've been reading it all afternoon.

I like the blog!

Have you heard about the Clique series? They're like the Gossip Girl books, but (just barely) toned down for girls around middle school age. Yes, that still creeps me out. The other day at the Reference Desk, I had a girl around 12 or so ask me where the Clique books were. During our conversation, I realized that her eyebrows were plucked (somewhat messily) and that she was wearing a lot of mascara behind her glasses. She was a wonderfully nice girl too, which makes it even worse! I understand wanting to play and experiment with make-up at any age, but it still made me want to hit my head against the desk.

*cries* I played with make-up in second grade but it was strictly a slumber party thing.

Let me know when you've had a chance to look over the Labyrinth revision? I think I sent the latest draft around mid-May.

I'm not sure if I approve of the premise; it's a little too much like aggressive mind control rather than responsible child-rearing. I'll read it though, it's an interesting concept!
