Internets, forgive me for I have gafiated. It has been nearly a month since my last post. IDK, guys, it's just been - life. I've been kind of charging around in a daze. But I'm halfway done with this frelling summer now, and I'm trying to get some of my geek back.
Not that I haven't been being geeky - The Boy and I have been eating Star Trek: The Original Series at a pretty intense pace, and dear sweet heaven do I love that show. It surprises me constantly with just how much I lurve it. frex:
* In "The Ultimate Computer" - my god how dear are Spock and McCoy? JTK's upset about possibly not being needed any more, and they just close ranks around him, each giving him their own peculiar brands of love and loyalty and TLC.
* The beginning of "Shore Leave"! How I didn't ever see this before I don't know, but it suddenly clicked into my head last night that in that opening scene with the backrub JT thinks it's Spock that's rubbing his back, and when he finds out that it's really the hot chick he gets all sulky and doesn't want it any more! It's like he's accidentally saying Spock's name in bed or something! And if that's not enough, he then proceeds to lounge about the corridors in a way clearly intended to signal Spock that he still wouldn't mind that backrub, plz bb?
* this is from "The Ultimate Computer" again, but - check out this speech from JTK:
I've -- I've never felt this way before. At odds with the ship. I sat there and watched my ship perform for a mass of circuits and relays and felt useless. Unneeded ... Do you know the one, "All I ask is a tall ship"? It's a line from a poem. A very old poem, isn't it? 20th century Earth. "All I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer it by". You could feel the wind at your back in those days. The sounds of the sea beneath you. Even if you take away the wind and the water, it's still the same. The ship is yours. You can feel her. And the stars are still there, Bones.
GAHH. HE'S JUST SUCH A ROMANTIC LITTLE NERD. AGE OF SAIL NOSTALGIA FTW!
* The last scene of "Requiem for Methuselah" - which I can't imagine being anything but slashy as all get out. McCoy makes pointed remarks at Spock about love in order to get him to snuggle up to JTK's mind. Right. Nothing queer to see here!
* The contraception win in "Mark of Gideon" - no matter how terrible the rest of the ep is - and it is - there is nothing not awesome about this show's not-at-all veiled pro-birth control stance.
In conclusion, I love this show so much! But - does anyone have any idea as to why it's "Adonais"? I'm assuming they meant Adonis? Because I fail to see what Keats and Shelley have to do with it - it's not like there are any drowned youths around.
I also walked out of "Eclipse" yesterday! Went for the lulz; got bored after an hour.
In other news - I was trying to listen to Bleak House on my commute, but I think I may be giving it up. The Dickens allergy is persisting. But I am reading Eliot's Romola, and that's lovely, so. Now I just need to get writing on my kink bingo stories. I have some for all of them, but my writing mojo has been sadly absent of late. Oh well, just means I have to initiate creative browbeating!
(secret message to all y'all: man, I missed you guys.)
