Well, it would have been strange if they had just had a big romantic ending at that point, when she's been going through so much and he's been flirting with Cordelia. If I'd take Season Seven ending as the ending of the series I'd assume either they got together at some point or continued to be in love 'til the day they die, and all other lovers would have to know they're kind of second-best. Which is a lot.
*blink*blink* I just picked up my last two comics the other week and there was nothing about Angel being human. Anyway, there could be tons of reasons why he's not with the Buffster at the moment.
The only racist analysis of Buffy I read was in 'Buffy and Philosophy: Fear and Trembling in Sunnydale'. I'll have to look at that post.
